Backcountry Touring
Ever dreamed of getting into the backcountry on skis or a board? The hot topic in ski magazines and once the domain of professional skiers only, backcountry skiing is now accessible to a wider range of enthusiasts. Head away from the crowds and into the wilderness.
Backcountry skiers use specialized ski bindings that unclip at the heel for travelling up the mountain, with boots that flex at the fore foot and skins attached to the bottom of the ski to maintain grip. Boarders use a unique snowboard called a split board that comes apart to be used like skis for uphill travel and clips back together to be ridden as a regular board when heading down again.
We can arrange a ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) guide for a truly unique Canadian experience away from the crowds and chairlifts. What a story to tell when you get back home! This adventure suits all skiers or boarders with intermediate or above skills and a moderate degree of fitness.
