HELMET SAFETY

Why wear a helmet
The average intermediate skier on a blue run is travelling at 60km/hr (45m/hr).
This is around rocks, trees, lift towers, patches of ice, cliffs and other moving objects (often out of control skiers). Sometimes visibility is poor, sometimes you’re not on top of your game and sometimes you are just minding your own business when someone else slams into you at 70km/hr.

Why don’t we rent helmets
The protection of a helmet is in the inner layer. Once the helmet receives a large impact the helmet can no longer be considered safe as the helmet has likely cracked internally. Helmets are designed to do that so that your head doesn’t crack. Without high tech x-ray equipment we cannot know what impact a helmet has sustained when it returns to our store. It may have been involved in a crash, kicked across a parking lot or thrown in the luggage part of a bus under a pile of skis. In short we can no longer guarantee it’s safety. And safety is one of our key priorities. We all wear helmets and we strongly encourage you to as well.
